Not only…but also是英語中⽐較常見的⼀個關聯詞組，⽤於連接兩個表⽰並列關係的成分，着重強調後者。它的意思

是“不僅 … ⽽且 ...”其中的also有時可以省略

1、連接主語:

Not only I but also Tom and Mary are fond of watching television.

不僅我，⽽且湯姆和瑪麗都喜歡看電視。

2、連接賓語:

The problem for the recipient was trying to guess not only who the sender was， but also what his secret feelings might be.

收信⼈不僅要盡⼒猜出是誰的，還要推測寄信⼈內⼼有什麼想法。

3、連接謂語動詞

The Americans and the British not only speak the same language but also share a large number of social customs.英國⼈和美國⼈不但語⾔相同，⽽且有很多相同的風俗習慣。

not only放在句首連接一個句子時，該句應使用倒裝語序。

例句：Not only did I see a film，but also cleaned my room.我不僅看了一場電影，還打掃了我的房間。

Not only can Mary speak French but also he can speak English.瑪麗不但會說法語，而且還會說英語。

1、not only … but also應連接兩個相對稱的並列成分。例如：

Not only MrLin but also his son joined the Party two years ago.不僅是林先生，他的兒子也在兩年前加入了該黨。(連接兩主語)

He plays not only the piano but also the violin.他不僅彈鋼琴，還拉小提琴。(連接兩個賓語)

注：句子 He not only plays the piano but also the violin 不是好的文體，因爲 but also 之後的成分與 not only 之後的成分不對稱.

2、not only …but also 連接兩個分句，並且 not only /until位於句首時，第一個分句中的主語和謂語要部分倒裝。例如：

Not only does the sun give us light but also it gives us heat.太陽不僅給了我們光明，也給了我們熱量。

Not only didhe speak English correctly，but also he speaks it fluently.他不僅講正確的英語，而且講得很流利。
