dinner和supper都可以意爲“吃晚飯”,可以根據詞義和用法區分。
1、詞義不同。
dinner主要有兩個意思:
(1)意爲“正餐”,可以指中餐,也可以指晚餐。
(2)意爲“晚宴”,主要指宴請某人或者舉辦正式活動。
supper指“晚飯”,以及睡覺前吃的“夜宵”,睡前小食等。

(3)表示“餐名”, dinner可用作可數名詞,也可用作不可數名詞。

(1)supper 多指家常的、非正式的晚飯,多用單數形式,一般不用冠詞修飾。

(2)supper 固定用來指聖經中耶穌受難前的最後一次晚餐。
