在使用(a) part of …時，of之後的名詞若是單數，通常謂語也就視為單數，同樣，of之後的名詞若是複數，通常謂語也視為複數.
如：
This piece of glass seems to be (a) part of a lamp.
A part of the passengers were injured in the accident
由“some of，plenty of，a lot of，lots of，most of，the rest of，all of，half of，part of，the remainder of或分數、百分數+of+名詞”等短語作主語時，謂語動詞常與of後的名詞保持數的一致。
如：
Parts of the book are very instructive．
The rest of the lecture is dull．
Half of the apple is rotten．這個蘋果的一半腐爛變質了。
Half of the apples are rotten．這些蘋果有一半腐爛變質了。
About one third of the books are worth reading.大約三分之一的書值得一讀。
Over 30％ of the students were absent from the meeting
