rather than相當於instead of。
注意下面兩點：
1、相同點：他們的意思相差不大
放在句首：不是---而是---
放在句中：而不是
例如： Rather than the fat girl.，I love the thin girl.
2、不同點……instead of 接動詞的時候，動詞加ing，而rather than 可以跟動詞ing結構，也可以跟動詞原形。
Rather than being pleased she got angry.
Rather than catch her when she was stealing things， I shouted at her.
